Here it is; a very lengthy post on how I defined the Elements of Harmony and what they mean when applied to a pony/person.  They are stated here in personality trait fashion, as I use these to define my characters. I will also use this to describe the adoptables I make.  So far, I have not come across any well designed character of actual person that does not fit somewhere on this list.  Columbus came close... but I won't go into that here. ;)  If you have any questions or would like to know my thoughts behind placing a given person where they are, feel free to ask! :D

Magic/Friendship -
A relatively rare character trait.  It may seem rather common, however, because almost every Magic used their talents to make a lasting impact on the world.  They are natural orators, persuaders, and leaders.  They are usually introverted, and have (to others) unreal high aspirations toward a greater good.  Although they tend to make 'friends' with practically everyone they meet, they are also in need of close, intimate relationships.
To be a Magic, the person in question is a possessor of all the other elements, in their own ways.  True Magics, however, lean close to their strength in Kindness.  There are some Magics who are not true Magics, as their strength is not in kindness, for example Spurgeon and Queen Elizabeth.

Examples of characters/people who have this element: Twilight Sparkle (of course), Moondancer*, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther, Huon (Great & Terrible Quest) Charles Spurgeon (laughter) and Queen Elizabeth (loyalty).

Generosity -
Not marked as much in a giving spirit, but more of a quality of selflessness, living their life not to please themselves, but to the benefit of others.  That could MEAN giving of material goods, but the mindset is what is important.  Generally they view themselves as not as important as others, and they conduct themselves upon that belief. Generosities are generally pleasant to be around, by the fact that they offer themselves as a free gift.  Great Generosities will even go so far as to sacrifice themselves and lay their life down in the belief it will save the lives of many.  Usually going unnoticed and unpraised, and never demanding recognition, Generosities use the simple things in life to quietly make the world a better place.  Generosity is a twin to Kindness.

Examples of characters/people who have this element: Cambric Tea*, Beth March, George Whitefield, The Doctor and  Mr. Holmes.  NOT Rarity**.

Loyalty -
Strong, dependable and trustworthy, Loyalties are exactly that, Loyal.  Whether it is to their country, (France) their closest friend (Frodo) or simply to themselves and their own ideas (Columbus). Loyalties are long suffering and never wavering in their dedication to the thing they love.  Willing to go to their deaths to protect what they love, and be by their side at the end of all things.  Loyals can be extra or introverted, usually extra though.  Sacrificial towards their beliefs, they will even give up their greatest treasures to right any injustices or wrongs toward the thing they are loyal towards.

Examples of characters/people who have this element (name; then subject of loyalty): Rainbow Dash (Ponyville, her friends), Rarity (herself, Fashion, and her friends), Valentine*(her friends), Napoleon (himself, France), Samwise Gamgee (Mister Frodo, the light that is still left in his world), Jonathan Edwards (his Lord and Savior), and Christopher Columbus (himself and his Genius ideas) Marlo* (His country and the ponies he loves) .

Honesty -
One who's element is Honesty can be identified not by the fact that they never lie (Applejack has lied on several occasions) but by the fact that they have a strong belief in what they feel is right.  Truth is of utmost importance to them. So strong is their conviction, that no matter how difficult things get, they will never compromise their beliefs for the sake of their own comfort.  To the best of their ability they will also hold others up to their standards, whether it is a conscious decision or not.  This trait usually has mixed results of making friends and enemies.  Those of this element are generally rather charismatic by their honest character and friendly, loving view of all other creatures.  This element is mainly comprised of extroverts. This element is a twin to Loyalty.

Examples of characters/people who have this element: Applejack, Barbara Gilbert (call the midwife), John Smith (early American Settler) and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Laughter -
Usually seen as happy and carefree, Laughters are the optimists.  To one of this element, no problem is to hard not to laugh through, no difficulty to horrid for a smile.  Their own bubbling happiness is usually enough to make everyone they come in contact with to smile along with them.  Extremely charismatic, Laughters can make friends with practically everyone.  The only downside is a insecurity they all have, they need to feel loved and accepted.  Whether by one person or 100, depends on the one in question.  If they can't have an outlet to their boundless enthusiasm, someone to share the joys of life with, they will usually fall into a pit of depression, rather difficult to pull them out of.  Almost any person of this element will be extroverted.

Examples of characters/people who have this element: Pinkie Pie, Blue Jay*, Fanny Crosby, Trixie (The Great and Powerful), Henry VIII,  and Tom Sawyer.

Kindness -
Marked for their compassion and love, Kindness' are well thought of and loved by anyone who meets them.  They do not necessarily need to be shy, but they are almost always introverted.  Those of the element of Kindness can be identified by their soft and understanding heart, and their intense love for all creatures, whether human, pony or the wackiest, alien on the wackiest planet.  They will usually shy away from any direct confrontation, but if they are convinced it is for the good of the one they love they can do practically anything; from rejecting marriage to the one they truly love in the belief they deserve someone better, or literally traveling across worlds. (after I typed this I realized the first one applies to Trixie and Aragorn! :D) This element is a twin to Generosity.

Examples of characters/people who have this element: Fluttershy, Trixie Franklin (call the midwife) Rose Tyler, Aragorn, and Samuel Morris.

*A character from my fanfic.
**Rarity cannot possibly be Generosity.  Any pony who could guilt a baby dragon out of his months prepared birthday gift cannot possibly be generous.  The sealing thing is that her acts of Generosity, (excluding those from the musical number "Oh Manehattan, What You Do To Me!", but those seemed out of character) they were all done not for the sake of the one in question but more for a sense of justice and loyalty towards the given thing.  "For the Sake of Fabulosity! She gave up her tail, which was her most memorable act of generosity.

If you have any questions feel free to drop one below!  You may also feel free to use this to define your own characters, however, if you quote me, please link back to this page so others can read it too! :)
You can also give me a character and I'll place them in an element, (my siblings and I have been doing that all day ;)

What element are you?

I've managed to define a few of my characters but I'm having trouble with two of them. xD
-I have this character who definitely is a Magic- he's super idealistic, charismatic, and tries to be kind to his friends even though he's sort of insensitive. The only problem is he's...kind of the bad guy? His ideas are mostly about destroying other people to help the ones that he actually cares about. He's sort of a mixture of Discord and unicorn Twilight (unicorn Twilight specifically because she hasn't learned all the lessons she needs to become the Princess of Friendship and my character has trouble relating to people he doesn't like.) Also he's an extrovert, an ENTP to be exact. I've been told that that's one of the more introverted types of extroverts but he's still an extrovert. Maybe he's a Magic(Honesty)?

-Another character I'm having trouble with is someone who used to be a Laughter. I dunno, she's just really stressed and upset, and she feels like everyone's staring at her all the time and disapproving. I'd be tempted to say she's a Discorded Laughter but I don't know if that's a thing.

Anyways, I think I might be a Magic!
